June 29
Several varieties of leaf lettuce: Litska (red), Cristabel (spikey green), and Mira (smoother green).
Arugula that's already starting to go to seed, oops...
Concord grape cuttings that I took in the winter. Only one survived. In a cereal box lined with a plastic bag because I don't own a deep enough pot.
Apricot that I grew from seed. Also the only seed that survived cold stratification.
Purpetua highbush blueberry bush that I got on sale for $10 last year. Gonna have lots of berries but I need to plant it somewhere.
Chili pepper plant grown from seeds from Dollar Tree. Claims that this cultivar holds the world record for pepper size, but I planted it too late so we'll see if I get anything from it at all.
Half of this row are normal radishes and the other half are supposed to be black, white, yellow and purple. The garden centre gave those ones away for free.
The entire plot. There's carrots to the left of the radishes and more peppers to the left of that. They're most orange and purple bell peppers but there's one Shepard in there too.
We have two apple trees: one Spy and one seedling that's a bit like a McIntosh.
Black rot has been terrible historically. We sprayed them with oil and it seems to be a bit better (last year at this point the leaves were turning yellow and falling off lol)
Plum curculio also does a number on the fruit. We used Pyrethin and clay but it doesn't seem to help much.
I'm also growing hardy kiwi (
A. arguta
) on this trellis my dad and I built. He put chicken wire around the plants because the bunnies kept eating them. The grapes will go on the further end.
The male plant is the cultivar 'Andrew'.
The female plant is a Ken's Red which is supposed to give up to 100 lbs of fruit a year.
Some pomegranate seedlings I'm growing inside. Not sure what I'll do with them because I don't think they can survive outside here (zone 6).
Another kiwi plant, but it's a fuzzy kiwi I grew from seed. I left it outside and it got sunburnt :(.
My favourite part of the garden :D.
July 29
A lot of the blueberries dropped but there's still a few ripening.
The hot pepper is quite a bit bigger.
The peppers in the garden are also bigger but nowhere near the size of the hot pepper. The soil is really shitty clay so I guess that makes sense.
The apples are starting to turn colour.
I took that big long year-old shoot off the pole and tied that new shoot to it cuz it looked like it was gonna grow better.
Over the course of a month the Ken's Red sent up a shoot that since grown to over 2 feet tall! It's growing over an inch a day and at this rate it will reach the top in no time.
September 7
The lettuce has been trying to bolt for like a month but it's just getting taller and not sending any flowers for some reason. It looks really weird though.
I think I probably will get some hot peppers ripened before the frost. I plan on bringing the pot inside in the winter anyways so hopefully I'll get some all year round.
The bell peppers probably won't ripen, but I don't care because look at it. It's a tiny bell pepper. It's fucking adorable.
The apples are basically ripe. Some look great but others are full of worm holes cuz we forgot to keep spraying after the plum curculio was gone. Oops!
This thing grew so quickly it reached the top by the middle of August. Now it's taller than me! The same can't be said about the other one, which hasn't grown at all, but I guess there's always next year.
